This 1988 report by the King County Office of Citizen Compliants (Washington State) summarizes complaints and dispositions by the agency against which the complaints are made.
Abstract
The agencies involved in the complaints are involved in the areas of adult detention; assessments; executive administration; health; judicial administration; parks, planning, and resources; public safety; and public works. During the May-August period covered by this report, approximately 4,590 citizens contacted the office. The majority of the complaints were resolved with information and referral or other brief assistance. The remaining 115 were investigated as complaints. Approximately 2,000 complaints were received from jail inmates. Only 16 were accepted for individual investigation. Among the concerns addressed were medical transport, mail distribution, timely credit of monies to inmate accounts, procedures for care of inmates held in restraints, property loss, and the care of pregnant inmates. Two additional issues that surfaced during the reporting period and which merit further consideration are hiring procedures for manager, assistant manager, and administrative assistant positions in the county and employment accommodation for employees who become disabled on the job. Recommendations are offered for improving county hiring procedures to provide equal opportunity for promotion and hiring.
