The FBI's Drug Demand Reduction Program (DDRP), established on April 18, 1988, elicits the public's cooperation in reducing the demand for illicit drugs.
Abstract
The DDRP augments the antidrug efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration's demand-reduction coordinators. The DDRP has created a drug demand reduction coordinator (DDRC) in each of the FBI's 58 field offices. FBI headquarters is responsible for the overall administration of the program. This includes guidance and support for the DDRC's in reaching the public and in promoting the FBI's role in drug enforcement and demand reduction. The DDRP disseminates pertinent demand reduction materials to appropriate organizations and arranges for the presentation of demand reduction programs and speeches. It establishes and maintains liaison with the demand reduction specialists of other agencies, including routine contact with the Drug Enforcement Administration. The DDRP also coordinates the development and growth of regional programs with FBI headquarters to ensure maximum economy and effectiveness.
