The Crime Resistance Involvement Council in Pasadena, Calif., involves elderly citizens working alongside a small staff of paid professionals to provide elderly victims guidance through the court system, referrals to various agencies, and professional psychological services. In Sun City, Ariz., elderly citizens have been instrumental in activities promoting community safety, including car and foot patrols, vacation watch, search and rescue, traffic control, home security checks, operation identification, and neighborhood watch. Seniors Against Crime in Tacoma, Wash., has opened a storefront crime prevention operation in an effort to rid the neighborhood of crack houses, drug dealing, and alcohol-related crimes. In Jacksonville, Fla., Community Posse has organized 95 percent of the 500 thriving neighborhood watches and has conducted numerous home security surveys. Seniors have been used in various programs throughout the Nation to educate people about crime victimization and prevention and provide services that aid victims and prevent crime.
