Unlocked doors and doors propped open are the most common source of security problems and potential access by criminals. To address security issues, campus security staff hold quarterly meetings with residence hall staff to exchange information and ideas and to establish joint goals and objectives for security. The beat officers also meet with a contact person to exchange information every other week. In addition, the staff of the residence halls make rounds throughout the day to reduce the problem of propped doors and to watch for suspicious activities. Other measures include patrols by the campus police, orientation and field training for each patrol member, the use of an alarm system for exterior doors, and an intercom system that permits monitoring of areas for sounds.
