This report describes the demographic, offense, and release status characteristics of the 2,604 offenders released from Wisconsin's correctional institutions for adults during calendar year 1987.
Abstract
A summary of the report's highlights notes that 72.2 percent of the adult offenders were classified as first releases and 23.9 percent as rereleases. Most were released to a community supervised status. Males in this population had served sentences for unarmed burglary, armed robbery, and theft, while females were frequently incarcerated for forgery, theft, and drug offenses. Half the males and three-fifths of the females were classified as property offenders. The majority of the releasees planned to remain in Wisconsin. Other areas covered by statistics include sentences, average length of stay, racial breakdowns, participation in prison educational and treatment programs, participation in work release, and criminal histories of rereleasees.
