This article discusses the development, responsibilities, and achievements of the ombudsman's office for children in Norway.
Abstract
This report outlines the reasons why the ombudsman's office for children in Norway was created. The functions of the office, and its stated goals are discussed by its first commissioner. Achievements that the office have attained are stated. One of these has been the passage of a law prohibiting physical punishment and treatment threatening the physical or physiological development of a child. The future of the ombudsman's office is discussed. (Author abstract modified)
