Vehicle crime has escalated consistently for each of the last five years and is now the most prevalent of all property crimes. Statistics are given on motor vehicle theft by State and city nationwide, value of property stolen during motor vehicle related theft, average value of motor vehicle theft, and percent of type of vehicle. The export and import of stolen vehicles, fraud, marine theft, salvage, and the misuse of salvage documents are discussed. The National Automobile Theft Bureau conducts training programs for police officers and insurance personnel in its role as an agency for the investigation, location and identification of stolen vehicles and for the promotion of anti-vehicle theft activities. 10 figures.
