This study reports the results of a survey to detect the incidence of AIDS among juveniles and to determine how juvenile corrections and detention administrators are dealing with issues related to juvenile AIDS infection.
Abstract
Survey questionnaires were sent to 51 corrections agencies and 41 detention facilities, and as of December 1987, 50 corrections institutions and 29 detention facilities has responded. Issues surveyed include whether the agencies and facilities had AIDS policies and procedures in place and whether staff and juvenile inmates received AIDS related training. Corrections agencies reported a total of 29 HIV positive juveniles and the detention facilities reported a total of 17 HIV positive juveniles. Criteria for testing and confidentiality procedures were also surveyed. The report lists the concerns expressed by corrections and detention administrators regarding the testing and care of HIV positive juveniles.
