The program involves the collection of urine specimens on specific occasions and laboratory analyses for substances on a list of banned drug classes, including stimulants, anabolic steroids and other performance enhancing and/or potentially harmful drugs. Each year, student-athletes will sign a consent form demonstrating their understanding of the NCAA drug testing program and their willingness to participate. Failure to complete and sign the statement will result in the student's ineligibility for participation in all intercollegiate competition. Selection for drug testing may be based on random selection, position of finish, or suspicion of use. All student-athletes found to be positive for a banned substance, with some exceptions for medically indicated drugs, are subject to a loss of eligibility to participate consistent with existing policies. Procedures have been developed for the collection of specimens, notification of results, and maintaining and documenting the chain of custody.
