The press and public relations department of the Northumbria Police Authority in England provides a vital link with the community by providing a constant flow of information about the positive aspects of policing, crime prevention, and human interest stories.
Abstract
The department has three sections: press office, graphics studio, and video unit. Press office provides journalists with information about incidents, are on 24-hour call for major incidents, answer inquiries, and write news releases and publicity materials. They also prepare press packets for all major initiatives and events and write regular publications. The graphics team prepares brochures, slides, charts, displays, and exhibitions. The video unit produces videos for both police and community use. Department staff also regularly hold mock press conferences for trainees from local newspapers and present talks to trainees in other parts of the police agency. Photographs.
