This transcript of the CBS News program, '48 Hours,' aired on January 5, 1989, and reviews the Detroit Police Department and homicides.
Abstract
The interviews with police officers, police officer wives, citizens, and family members of homicide perpetrators reveal the nature of homicides in Detroit and associated drug involvement. The interviews also provide information on the role of police women in homicide investigations and beat police officer duties. During the 48 hours in Detroit, 4 homicides and 501 other crimes were committed. It is noted that police officers complain about a dangerous job environment and being stressed out, while citizens say police officers are never around when they need them.
