This transcript of the CBS News program, '48 Hours,' aired on June 16, 1988 and reviews domestic violence.
Abstract
The interviews with police officers and citizens reveal information on the role of alcohol and drug use in domestic violence and on the nature of the home environment and family history in domestic violence situations. The interviews also provide information on battered men and women and on breaking the cycle of domestic violence. Minnesota is noted as the first State to treat domestic violence as a crime. It is also pointed out that only 1 in 10 reports of domestic violence nationwide results in arrest and that there is no simple answer to the complex problems triggering violence in the home.
