Abstract
In a population whose freedom of movement is restricted, it may be difficult to prevent the development of newly infected carriers and secondary cases by contact with carriers and to contain the rapidity of progression. The prevention of a potential outbreak of meningoccoccal meningitis at the Anna M. Kross Center (AMKC) Rikers Island detention facility is presented along with guidelines formulated by the Rikers Island Health Service on the management of unprotected exposures to communicable diseases.
