Our nation's children are growing poorer while our nation is growing richer.
Abstract
All groups of children are poorer today than they were a decade ago. White children's poverty rates increased by almost one-third. Unless our leaders act with a sense of urgency and with a significant, sustained level of investment, 3 million more American children will be poor in the year 2000. The Act for Better Child Care (ABC); Maternal and Child Health; Employment and Income; Housing and Homelessness; Childhood Nutrition Programs and the Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children; Vulnerable Children and Families; Child Care and Head Start; and Education are all discussed in relation to President Bush's plans to allocate funding in FY 1990.
