Judicial investigations and dispositions of Maryland's Office of the State Prosecutor for 1987 and 1988 are reviewed.
Abstract
The Office completed investigations and judicial dispositions for 10 cases in 1987 and 19 cases in 1988. In addition, the Office completed four investigations in which no charges were filed in 1987 and five such investigations in 1988. Three cases were argued by the State Prosecutor in appellate courts. During the 2 years, the Office engaged in a number of sensitive investigations, some of which became public knowledge even though criminal charges were not filed. The Office continued to expand its operations throughout the State, and a close working relationship was maintained with the State Ethics Commission, particularly regarding disclosure statements of public officials. Election law complaints decreased during the 2 years as the result of interagency cooperation to enhance election law enforcement. Statistical data on the Office's workload, complaints handled, and investigative case hours are provided, along with an organizational chart of the Office as of May 1989.
