This volume contains draft revisions to the American Bar Association (ABA) standards relating to court organization which were originally adopted by the ABA in 1974.
Abstract
The standards cover the aims of court organization, the unified court system (unified court structure, trial court, alternative dispute resolution, and appellate court) and competent and independent judges (judge selection, discipline, removal, and retirement; continuing judicial education; judges pro tempore; and judicial performance evaluation programs). The standards also deal with rulemaking, policymaking, and administration and with court administrative services (court administrative offices, nonjudicial personnel in the court system, collective bargaining for nonjudicial personnel, compensation and retirement of nonjudicial personnel, and continuing education for court staff). Finally, the standards concern court system financing and budgeting and court information systems. Each standard is accompanied by a comment section. References.
