Abstract
As with other technology of the day, television cameras are undergoing rapid changes. Solid state visible/near I.R. imagers are replacing conventional tubes for most applications and thermal imagers, though costly, are no longer burdened by costly coolant, weighty equipment, or poor resolution. The advances seen with imagers are not exploited by operational systems. In addition, artificial intelligence and image processing technology have seen limited application in police or security fields. The progress and strategy of initiatives to encourage the exploitation of new imaging systems and to apply advanced processing and analysis techniques are detailed. 11 photographs, 4 references.
