This segment of the 1988 Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Annual Report for Connecticut focuses on family violence-related arrests and homicides.
Abstract
There were 21,293 family violence incidents in which at least one person was arrested during 1988, a 2.3 percent increase over 1987. Nearly 9 in 10 cases involved an arrest for assault, breach of peace, or disorderly conduct. Most victims were female, and alcohol and/or drugs were involved in nearly half the incidents. The closest relationship between the parties involved was spouse (28 percent), former spouse (3 percent), or live-in (45 percent). Of 175 homicides reported to the UCR program in 1988, 30 conformed to the definition of family or household member. Family violence-related homicides resulted in offender arrest or suicide.
