Once an offender has been referred he/she is given an initial interview and assessment performed by a mental health team composed of a counselor and a psychologist. If it is determined that the offender is neither mentally retarded nor psychotic and is likely to benefit from the program, he/she is accepted. The mental health team works with the client to develop an individualized treatment plan that identifies specific mental health needs. Treatment modalities include individual, group, marital, and family counseling; psychoeducational courses; and social skills development. When the core requirements of the program are met according to specific criteria, the offender can be considered for parole eligibility. Treatment for the sex offender continues after release in the community centers. All case information is transferred to the community center, and additional assessment and treatment are provided.
