Abstract
The U.S. Department of Labor has undertaken special measures to address the problem of youth unemployment. Programs include the Job Training Partnership Act and literacy related initiatives. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services offers Block Grants designed to give States discretion to determine which social services are offered, and who will receive them. The Head Start Program and Runaway Homeless Youth Program are also offered by this agency. The U.S. Department of Education lists as its priorities: supporting programs that enhance educational opportunities for the poor, disadvantaged, and handicapped; eliminating drugs from schools; enhancing activities that promote educational quality; and giving priority to elementary and secondary education programs. The U.S. Department of Justice programs are designed to prevent child abuse and to provide guidance regarding the issues of juvenile justice and delinquency, including the Concentration of Federal Effort program. The U.S. Department of Defense is involved in different youth activities and issues as they relate to military families, such as the Family Advocacy Program and the Department of Defense Family Activities Committee. 11 tables.
