Data for January-December 1988 compiled by Virginia's Uniform Crime Reporting Program address index offenses, the value of property stolen and recovered, arrests, and police officers killed and assaulted.
Abstract
Data on the crime index offenses cover murder/nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, arson, and 5-year trends and projections. The total crime index data and offense data are presented by contributing agencies. The number of full-time law enforcement employees is also presented for each contributing agency. A summary of index offenses encompasses index offenses by month, crimes against the person and against property, clearance rates, clearance by offender age, the calculation of crime rates, and the quarterly fluctuation of index offenses. The value of property stolen and recovered is broken down by month and property type as well as by type of offense. Arrest data cover the number of arrests by month and by age, sex, and race; drug arrests; juveniles arrested by offense; percent change in arrests for 1988-87; and the police disposition of juveniles arrested. Data on officers killed and assaulted address the type of weapon, type of assignment, and time of day. Arrest totals are presented by county and city; and the data on index offenses and value of property stolen and recovered are presented by State planning districts.
