Cellular mobile telephones have increasingly become standard features in police patrol cars in St. Petersburg (Florida).
Abstract
Their use has contributed to time savings, better decisions, accelerated investigations, quicker apprehensions, more solid cases, earlier release of innocent suspects, closer supervision, increased officer availability, improved officer safety, a more professional image, and more satisfied St. Petersburg citizens and officers. Cellular telephones are compared with conventional radios, their use as an extension to conventional radio equipment in association with portable modem-equipped computers is described, and other advantages of the cellular telephone in the St. Petersburg patrol car are enumerated.
