This chapter examines terrorist incidents and groups associated with various States, including the Soviet Union, Libya, Iran, and some Hispanic states.
Abstract
The Soviet Union's use of surrogates in terrorist operations is portrayed in the attempted assassination of the Pope by a man with links to terrorist organizations and the use of Soviet-bloc countries to aid and abet international terrorists. The Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia, a terrorist group desiring to achieve the independence of Armenia from Turkey, also has links to the Soviet Union in attempts to destabilize Turkey. The chapter documents Libya's connection with terrorist operations against the United States, Iranian-sponsored terrorism against the United States and U.S. citizens, and aspects of Hispanic-contrived terrorism in the Americas. The latter discussion considers the activity of the Puerto Rican terrorist group FALN and its links to Cuba and the Soviet Union. Terrorist activity in Central America is also tied to Cuba. 46 notes.
