This text is intended to provide business company officials with guidelines on forming company policy related to AIDS and with information on establishing and conducting AIDS education for employees.
Abstract
The volume also aims to provide occupational health-care professionals and the working public with information on prevention, relationships with infected coworkers, health insurance, and employer liability. An overview presents facts about AIDS transmission, its prevention, and its financial impact on business and society. Additional chapters detail strategies for formulating company policy, essential components of an AIDS policy, and the development of worksite education to teach workers the facts regarding the transmission of AIDS. Further chapters explain issues related to screening for AIDS, compliance with legal standards regarding employee rights, responses to workers' attitudes and fears regarding coworkers with AIDS, the management of the HIV-infected employee, the protection of workers from potential occupational exposure to AIDS, dealing with AIDS from public relations and media perspectives, and general efforts directed to AIDS prevention and control.
