However theory and practice may differ, the quest for justice cannot be divorced from the quest for truth. Parts I and II analyze the internal logic and internal dilemmas of the two traditional approaches to the quests for truth and justice. Various thinkers are discussed and the labels, "metaphysical" and "transcendental" are applied to the foundationalist strategies exemplified in certain features of their thought. Part III seeks to demonstrate how foundation-free systematic philosophy offers a strategy avoiding the difficulties of traditional theories and meeting the challenge of nihilism. Part IV considers the basic relations of justice as the resulting systematic philosophy allows them to be conceived.
