Each State was asked to respond separately for its facilities for adult and facilities for juveniles. This report tabulates all questions which were answered by enough respondents to make statistically valid conclusions. Approximately 20 percent of the questions could not be tabulated because of an insufficient response rate. Questions required checking the appropriate box or writing in a number or a short phrase. Ninety-two questions covered the physical characteristics of the facility; capacity and use; funding, administration, and staffing; classification, security, and litigation; visiting and child care; health care services; inmate substance abuse; work assignments; and academic and vocational education. Where the response rate for a particular question allows, the statistical data are presented separately for adult and juvenile facilities for the four standard census regions.
