This study explored the role of pornography in contributing to child sexual abuse by reviewing laboratory studies and the circumstances of such abuse.
Abstract
The causes of child abuse, a major form of maltreatment, have remained obscure. A review of official reports and other research indicated that the circumstances surrounding sexual abuse have been inadequately specified to allow causal interpretations. An assessment of the research literature suggested thet pornography was a minor and indirect influence on child sexual maltreatment. 108 references. (Author abstract modified)
