In 1982 the German police dealt a blow to the Red Army Faction with the discovery of a cache of weapons and information which enabled police to capture three of the four leaders.
Abstract
This did not become the demise of the group as some experts expected. A raid in Frankfurt showed the group could still draw supplies and two of the people who were arrested were not even known to the police. Other documents showed that assessments of members and supporters had been underestimated. Some observers believe that the group has overcome the theoretical and tactical strategies which affected the group after the Schleyer murder and the Stammheim suicides. More problems can be expected in the near future as young people who feel frustrated and helpless in the face of larger peace and anti-nuclear rallies and the riots over the Frankfurt airport will turn to terrorism as an outlet. There are many targets, including computer firms, chemical companies, and large industrial plants. Also high on the agenda are military targets. 3 Notes.
