The Movement of the Revolutionary Left (MIR), the nation's oldest and deadliest group, first appeared in the 1960's, and practices Lenin and Marxist ideology; They believe that armed struggle and class war are the only effective ways for the working class to obtain power. Their strategy consists in rebuilding a revolutionary organization, recruiting new members, developing an armed propaganda campaign, forging a coalition with the left, and practicing armed resistance. The MIR does not suffer from lack of members or funds and will take advantage of the situation as long as there is no one who commands national stature or trust. The Chilean public willingly tolerates and participates in violent acts of protest against the Pinochet administration, but the MIR will have to become more active and audacious to retain its popularity against the recently formed Fronte Revolucionario Manuel Rodriguez. 1 Note.
