The 1988 Annual Report of the Rockford, Ill., Police Department contains criminal and traffic statistics and information on activities of department divisions.
Abstract
Criminal incidents totaled 32,015 during 1988, while the number of service requests reached 133,000. Of 13,722 Part I crimes, most of which involved burglary and theft, about 23 percent were solved. Traffic citations totaled 18,239, and there were 7,291 traffic accidents. Organizational and service activities of the department's chaplain, training, recruiting, communications and records, and investigative services divisions are noted. The Rockford Police Department plans to use a coordinated service delivery approach to achieve three goals for 1989-1990: (1) expand efforts to combat illegal drug activities in the city through drug education in schools and additional resources for investigating the illegal drug trade; (2) improve call-for-service responses through better manpower allocation and alternative response systems; and (3) initiate proactive police involvement to reduce crime by eliminating environmental and societal conditions that inhibit a person's ability to lead a lifestyle free from the threat of real or perceived crime.
