A self administered questionnaire was given to freshmen at Kansas State University to assess their alcohol consumption level. The students selected for the study were categorized by probation/non-probation status, gender, and college of instruction in which the student was enrolled. Results of the study using a Three-Factor, Fixed Effects Analysis of Variance show that (1) males drank more than females; (2) students on probation drank more than non-probation students; and (3) College of Business Administration students drank more than Arts and Science and Engineering students. Additional research, particularly longitudinal studies on the consequences of drinking on probation students, is suggested. 4 tables and 12 references. (Author abstract modified)
