This study focuses considerable attention on substance use, alienation, and social background, and their relation to adolescent suicide.
Abstract
The survey involved 2690 adolescents were surveyed using self-report instruments. Results show that females, youth ages 14-16, rural people, and drug users in general, are at higher risk for a suicide attempt. Females who are heavy users of marijuana and are frequent alcohol users are much more likely to attempt suicide than the males. The study also shows that alienation is closely linked to suicidal behavior. 5 tables and 20 references. (Author abstract modified)
