The material is based on Federal guidelines for preventing occupational transmission of HIV and HBV among worker groups. The curriculum covers how HIV and HBV are spread; personal prevention practices; universal precautions; protective equipment; specific workplace prevention practices, including decontamination; and the management of exposures. Individual sections describe ways to plan, deliver, and evaluate training; provide a lecture outline for use in training sessions; and present case studies describing incidents that might occur during the performance of duty, together with questions relating to decisions about appropriate responses. Additional sections provide lists of print and audiovisual resources, organizations, and clearinghouses; a glossary of terms; and the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control. Copies of overheads for use with the lecture outline are included.
