The Green December Movement has founded two major centers, offering free drug treatment and rehabilitation programs, and has successfully involved men and women in community efforts to reduce drug abuse. Religious leaders alert the population to drug problems, and provide spiritual and psychological support for detoxified addicts. In its campaigns to provide drug information to various target groups, including teachers and out-of-school youth, the Green December Movement cooperates with government agencies and non-governmental organizations concerned with drug problems in the community. In addition, the Green December Movement has undertaken research on the nature and extent of drug abuse, as well as its prevention and treatment. Evaluations of the Green December Movement have, to date, revealed positive results. (Author abstract modified)
