The nations that are parties to the South American Agreement on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ASEP) have decided to coordinate measures to achieve close cooperation and the efficient exchange of information regarding drug trafficking and efforts to combat it.
Abstract
This agreement took effect in March 1976. ASEP organizes regional and international training courses, seminars, and conferences on the subject of illicit drug trafficking. It also promotes the permanent exchange of information regarding enforcement techniques and the methods used by drug traffickers. In addition, it maintains close technical cooperation with the International Criminal Police Organization, the United Nations, and other international agencies concerned with drug control. Moreover, it is involved in related activities like the establishment of national drug control coordinating bodies, cooperation between nations regarding legislative measures conducive to drug control, and the operation of a computerized system designed to facilitate contacts between different nations' drug law enforcement agencies.
