Member nations of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) have decided to coordinate their efforts to overcome drug-related problems and illicit drug trafficking, which are recognized as threats to their national security, stability, and resilience.
Abstract
The activities and significant achievements of each member nation show the important role that each nation has played in combating illicit drug trafficking. Members of ASEAN recognize the importance of cooperation in the efforts against illicit drug trafficking. Their main efforts have focused on enforcement and legislation, preventive education and information, treatment and rehabilitation, and research. ASEAN training centers have been established in Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia. In addition, an ASEAN narcotics desk has been established at the ASEAN secretariat. Other projects include annual training courses for law enforcement officers and workshops on curriculum development in prevention education. Discussions of activities against illicit drug trafficking in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. (Author abstract modified)
