This article discusses drug control laws in Pakistan.
Abstract
Until 1979, British drug control laws were in force in Pakistan. In 1979 the president of Pakistan promulgated Prohibition Order, 1979, prescribing increased severe penalties for those who would violate import, export, manufacture, or processing regulations for intoxicants. Intoxicants are defined as products of cannabis, opiates, and coca derivatives. In December 1983, the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1930 and the Prohibition Order 1979 were amended to further increase Pakistan's punitive sanctions for those who violate drug control laws. Severe sanctions exist for recidivists. (Author abstract modified)
