This monograph provides abstracted information on the adolescent health component of 36 Special Projects of Regional and National Significance supported by the Federal Office of Maternal and Child Health (OMCH).
Abstract
The 36 projects with an adolescent health focus were selected from approximately 500 active maternal and child health projects supported by the OMCH. The projects involve comprehensive community-based services for adolescents; program development issues such as health insurance coverage and policies to promote healthy families; the encouragement of healthy adolescent behaviors; violence and injury prevention; and youth in transition issues such as children with learning disabilities, psychosocial services for adolescents with genetic diseases, and networking services for adolescents with sickle cell disease. Research projects focus on risk-taking behavior, parenting, infants of depressed mothers, black pregnant teenagers, home visiting for mothers and children, and mothering in adolescence. Various adolescent health care training projects are described, and an appendix lists State adolescent health coordinators.
