Abstract
This has brought a new challenge to the police department -- the infiltration of Los Angeles gangs. In 1988, the laws regarding domestic violence were revised giving police responsibility to assure that the responsible party is removed from the situation. The Board of Police commissioners, responsible for providing police services to the citizens, determine policy and adopt rules and regulations consistent with governing police-related activities. They are also responsible for appointing the Chief of Police and for filling other key positions. The police chief's office oversees four bureaus: Field Services, Investigations, Fiscal, and Administration and Services. This report presents statistics on the police budget, the composition of the law enforcement personnel, arrests, value of stolen property, and traffic violations. Also included is a summary of juvenile arrests.
