This newsletter assists projects in 16 cities nationwide to establish school-based physical and mental health services for adolescents at risk for serious socio-medical problems.
Abstract
The lead article reports on the work carried out by the School Mental Health Project, UCLA, a newly created student health center in Los Angeles. An interview with Dr. Jose Cardenas provides insights into the process of building a strong mental health program in a largely Hispanic school population. The newsletter also contains an article on the health initiatives funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as well as a list of the projects receiving support from the foundation. The projects receive technical assistance from staff at Harvard University and the Children's Hospital National Medical Center in Washington, DC.
