This primer focuses on the decisionmaking responsibility of the U.S. courts of appeals to review cases and, as a brief introductory reading on the subjects, is intended for continuing education and training of personnel of the Federal judicial system.
Abstract
The topics covered include an introduction, background, and overview of the courts; procedures related to the exercise of subject-matter jurisdiction; civil appeals from final judgments; civil interlocutory appeals; extraordinary writs; criminal appeals; and appeals from Federal administrative agencies. The scope of the primer does not include "second-look" procedures available in the district court; the appellate jurisdiction of the Supreme Court; standards of review; Federal appellate procedures and advocacy; and matters of judicial administration. An annotated bibliography is included. Chapter references.
