When purchasing computer systems, law enforcement agencies need to consider price, the size of the department, size of the system, and functionality of the software package.
Abstract
Currently available functions include easy access to data with common language, retrieval of a record by any known information, tie-ins to fire department records and 911 emergency systems, administrative functions, color terminal screens and multiple screen options, message transfers between personnel, security protection of files, automatic search capabilities, and date and time stamping. Modular systems described in this article are the CPSC 10-4 Police Department Management System, Keystone Online Public Safety (KOPS), and CHIEFS. Advanced Police Information Management System (APLIMS) is a primary integrated software package. Wang computer systems, sold as the VS minicomputer system and a microcomputer system along with an innovative option called the Freestyle Computing System, are focused on as available hardware.
