Abstract
The casebook format provides information on the law and affords a means for obtaining insights into appellate court decisions. The section on substantive criminal law covers issues including the constitutional limitations on legislative power, Federal criminal jurisdiction, various offenses, and criminal responsibility and the defense of mental impairment. Basic legal concepts regarding proof of guilt focus on reasonable doubt and presumptions of fact. Limits on undercover work, the law of arrest, eyewitness identification procedures, criminal interrogations and confessions, searches and seizures, and the exclusionary rule comprise the section on legal limitations upon law enforcement procedures. Supreme Court and other appellate court case opinions and introductory textual material and notes comprise the casebook.
