This handbook, produced by Canada's National Parole Board, presents answers to questions frequently asked by victims and their families about parole.
Abstract
Going to court as a victim of crime, or as a victim's family member, can be a frightening experience. When the verdict is announced and the sentence passed, some victims experience shock, disbelief, fear, apprehension, confusion, and anger. Because the offender release system in Canada is a complex criminal justice process, reflecting the nature of the country's social system, the booklet acquaints the reader with the ways that an offender can be released from prison, particularly through parole. Provincial authorities responsible for young offenders are listed, along with national and regional offices of Canada's Correctional Service and the National Parole Board.
