This directory describes and assesses available information materials designed for use in providing education about AIDS to youth and the general public.
Abstract
The directory is intended as a reference tool for educators, service providers, program managers, policymakers, and others interested in or affected by the HIV epidemic. The materials include posters, brochures, public service announcements, books, manuals, audiovisual materials, instructional programs, and multimedia packages. Items for possible inclusion were gathered through a national survey distributed to more than 12,000 organizations. More than 30 AIDS, health, and education experts helped review the more than 900 items collected. The materials were rated in terms of their medical accuracy, their appropriateness for the target audience, and their production quality. Abstracts and reviewers' comments are included for each item rated average or above. Those rated below average are listed by title and producer. Prices and sources are given for all materials. Additional chapters list resource organizations, additional materials, and the addresses and telephone numbers of the producers and distributors of the materials. Indexes by alphabetical order, product type, and materials in languages other than English.
