NCJ Number

Date Published
1988
Length
67 pages
Annotation
This handbook provides guidelines for the self-assessment that is a crucial component of the process of initial accreditation for a law enforcement agency.
Abstract
The guidelines are intended to guide the agency in its efforts to comply with applicable standards and to ensure that the agency will be ready to receive the assessors of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and to facilitate their review. The guidelines are designed for use both by the agency's accreditation manager while managing the program and providing orientation and training for other agency personnel and by agency personnel undertaking self-assessment assignments. Thus, they include discussions of managing the process, of the standards, and of how compliance must be documented. Copies of forms, instructions for completing them, and appended supplementary information are included.
