Data from several sources indicate that the education that children receive today is inadequate for an information age. If present trends continue, the whole economic and social structure of American society will be affected. Of particular concern is the growing body of poor, disadvantaged, and minority students who are at risk. However, Federal funding for education has declined, and State and local governments have had to fund efforts for improvement at a time when their budgets have been facing other demands as well. Future options being discussed are partnerships among agencies and individuals to provide education, the establishment of a tech-prep associate degree in conjunction with community colleges, methods for increasing choices within the educational system, the use of interactive technology, teacher incentive programs, changed financing, and reading readiness.
