The inquiry focuses on such questions as the proportion of offenders who are likely to be seropositive (i.e., infected with the AIDS virus) as well as the risk inherent from a single assault that involves forced vaginal intercourse. Analysis of the data suggest that very few, if any, female rape victims are likely to become infected as a result of this type of criminal activity. The policy implications of this finding for both victim counseling and HIV testing of offenders are examined. (Author abstract)
