In the last 15 years, the international terrorist has become a skilled and motivated specialist supported by sophisticated weaponry and the special interests of the countries who sponsor his activities.
Abstract
Protecting high risk personnel from ambush or abduction must be done by an individual with the skills of the professional criminal including the ability to conduct effective counter measures. In the United Kingdom, the private security industry is growing at such a rate that it is offering services which it cannot supply. Close Protection (CP) officers, unless properly trained, can put clients at great risk. The skills of the CP officer range from terrorist recognition to improvised incendiary devices. The summary notes the existence of hundreds of terrorist organizations and thousands of trained terrorists and includes a list of equipment currently available to terrorists.
