Full-time criminal and civil litigation case preparation takes 60 or more hours of work per week, often making it difficult for women lawyers to have time with their families. A solution for some is dividing a full-time civil litigation job between two part-time attorneys. Because of hiring constraints and heavy caseloads, however, job sharing is not as common as some would hope. To carry out a part-time litigation position, an attorney should have full-time child care, for scheduling priorities often mean that even part-timers must work long hours.
